The average weight gain during pregnancy is between 25-35 pounds. During and after the birth, including breastfeeding and other hormonal shifts that actually boost metabolism you can lose up to 13 pounds.
A lot of women can still be left with anywhere from 12 – 22 pounds of remaining baby belly fat to lose. To lose belly fat after pregnancy requires a little self-discipline, commitment and a persistent and healthy approach.
Tips on How To Burn Baby Belly Fat
Here are some helpful tips and strategies to help you reach your goal.
Do not start a diet program until three months post pregnancy. Start by eating healthy, well-balanced and natural foods and ease into your exercise program.
If you did not exercise throughout your pregnancy, take it slowly and don’t rush into a strenuous exercise routine. Remember, your body is still healing and needs time to adjust.
Walking is an excellent way to get your body ready for more strenuous exercises. So pull out the stroller and get ready to push while you walk. Of course don’t forget to put your baby in the stroller! Baby will love a ride around the neighborhood.
Eating five to six small, nutritious meals a day will help you maintain your energy, keep you from getting hungry during the day and help you to lose belly fat. If you are going to eat 5-6 meals a day make sure they are small because you don’t want to excessive calories creeping in.
Instead of using hand weights, hold your newborn when doing sit ups, arm lifts and squats.
Find a baby friendly gym. Many gyms now offer babysitting services while you work-out. And some gyms even offer the stroller workouts.
Foods to Eat to Burn Stomach Fat
Keep your kitchen stocked with fresh and healthy foods. Don’t leave yourself open to temptation so get rid of any secret stashes hidden away!
Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruit and lots of steamed or sauteed vegetables. If possible buy organic lean meats such as chicken, turkey, beef and wild caught fish. These will add the much needed protein to your diet.
You can also supplement your diet with eggs and other dairy products but be wary of yogurt as it can be loaded with sugar.
For an evening snack, or any kind of snack substitute carrot sticks and low fat ranch dip or hummus instead of potato chips and French onion dip or sugary treats. Make sure you cut out all fast foods, sugar, white bread, and pasta and stay away from processed foods.
